about

Ringbearer has returned!! Sound the horns, ring the bells! 2020 was already shaping up to be the Year of Dungeon Synth, so what more appropriate release for Acephale Winter than a brand new tape for one of the artists who helped kicked this whole dark ambient revival off?

Need I mention Ringbearer was also only the second act to appear on AWP? In the interim the scene he helped create has grown into a "normal people are starting to hear about it sort of thing," which is pretty amazing actually.

Folks who've followed this label for a while know how much I loved that last cassette's mixture of haunted synth passages, electro-BM, field recordings, and not so subtle nods to the genius of JRR Tolkien.

This new tape, though, displays light years of growth from an already brilliant artist. The arrangements are richer, featuring more vocals and live instrumentation, and motifs and themes stretch across tracks like paths through ghost-lit mountain passes, or the staircases in forgotten Dwarfen ruins. Or the tales found in Tolkien's books, for that matter.

Vultyrous doesn't just make great music, you see. He makes music worthy of its source material. You really ought to listen.
